The one fey who actually piqued my interest was Gadfly, the spring prince with a dangerous brain. Rook was alright, but he was not as strong as he might seem. They bargain on their lives and go along with everything as long as they can. She doesn’t fall back for him instantly, but realizes that she too had broken the Good Law with him once she enters the Spring Court. Worse, through their long journey, Rook had fallen in love with Isobel. What ensues in the Spring Court, where the other half and the main plot takes place, is a deadly game which was thinly veiled among the chatter of the faeries all who seem to have an ulterior motive. And then explain yourself, please, beginning with why you were just a horse. My other favourite character was Emma, Isobel’s aunt.īring her inside and put her on the setee. I understood why Isobel felt so unfamiliar and wary of everyone and everything, but seeing it written that way in a book was slightly disconcerting. We enter the summer court and meet a handful of characters – who did not impress me, unfortunately.
